About the Book

Do you sometimes feel as if your faith has gone flat? Does your spiritual life feel listless and boring? Perhaps you’ve unconsciously drifted toward what Clare De Graaf calls beige Christianity. You go to church, attend a Bible study, and even volunteer, but there’s no spark anymore—no joy in your spiritual walk. You may not understand what is happening to your faith, but you do know that you long for something more.

If you want to break out of this spiritual gerbil cage and begin living the adventure Jesus intends for you, the place to begin again is living by The 10-Second Rule: Just do the next thing you’re reasonably certain Jesus wants you to do (and do it within the next ten seconds before you change your mind!).

The Rule is like a spiritual defibrillator! Just a few chapters in, you’ll begin to experience the excitement of making yourself available to God 24-7, and impacting the lives of everyone around you, even total strangers. All over the world, Christians just like you are returning to the simple faith of Jesus and living by the 10-Second Rule. In living by the Rule, you’ll rediscover the revolutionary power of simple obedience as Jesus taught it, the early church lived it, and before religious Christianity tamed it.

What others are saying about

The 10 Second Rule…

“Rarely does a book jolt me into immediate action. The 10 Second Rule did just that. After laying the book down I kneeled…and recommitted myself to ‘doing the next thing Jesus asks me to do.’ This book will wreak all kinds of good havoc in all who read it.”

Bill Hybels
Senior Pastor, Willow Creek Community Church, South Barrington, IL
Chairman of the Board, Willow Creek Association

“With unblinking transparency, Clare De Graaf says…what most of us secretly know about ourselves, which often keeps us from living the life God blesses. Living by the Rule is the way forward! 10 seconds can change your life.”

John Ortberg
Pastor, Menlo Park Presbyterian Church, Menlo Park, CA
Author, The Me I Want to Be

Excellent…helps turn down the noise so we can…really listen to the Savior’s direction…and follow! I highly recommend this small book filled with big impact!”

Joni Eareckson Tada
Founder/CEO Joni and Friends International Disability Center

“An easy-to-grasp and memorable formula for building a life that consistently puts the will and wisdom of Jesus into action. This book is a game-changer!”

Joe Stowell
President, Cornerstone University, Grand Rapids, MI

“You will enjoy and be impacted by The 10 Second Rule. I hope not to miss as many Jesus moments in the future.”

David Green
Founder/CEO, Hobby Lobby Stores

About the Author

Clare De Graaf is a follower of Jesus, businessman, elder, Bible teacher, and for over 25 years a full-time volunteer spiritual mentor of men. A successful businessman and Christian all his life, at age 31 he found himself at a spiritual crossroads – a crisis of faith triggered by cancer. Surrendering himself to Christ, he sold his manufacturing company in 1984, at age 35, to devote the balance of his life serving the King and his kingdom.

He is also the founding chairman of DOOR International, a ministry committed to translating the Bible in sign language for the Deaf of the world.
